A 21-year-old woman who rode for miles on a motorcycle while showing her G-string panty must be regretting the act now, after she was slapped with a $3,000 fine or serve 10 days’ imprisonment for indecent exposure yesterday.
Akalia Jones, labourer, of 4 Espeut Avenue, Kingston, received the sentence in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court. While the allegations were being read, there was snickering as several persons found the situation amusing that a woman who opted to show her undergarments would be regretting it. The court heard that on July 14, the accused was the pillion on a bike travelling from Clarendon. It is reported that a number of persons saw her with her skirt flying high exposing her derrière as the motorcycle made its way along the highways and other thoroughfare.
The arresting officer Corporal Peter Lewis said he tried to stop the bike along the Old Harbour Road but it continued along the way as the wind continued flailing Jones’ skirt causing more persons to see her G-string. The arresting officer said calls were made to Police Control in order to intercept the bike.
“Your Honour, when I caught up with the bike at Food For The Poor, the driver told me that he believed it was his friend trying to stop him,” Corporal Lewis said. He told the court that he prosecuted the driver for not wearing a helmet and charged Jones with indecent exposure.
When inquiries were made of the driver of the bike, the accused told the court he was a policeman. Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece told Jones to be more responsible in her mode of dress for the road. She was subsequently fined for her antics on the bike.
